These four pieces are of an abstract nature, exploring colours, tension
and "friction". Each movement has its own characteristics and
at the same time tries to raise similarities as well as differences in
shape, but not sound. The overall sound, is what keeps these movements
together.
Jan Podlipny
As a 4-year old I started to play the piano and violoncello at the local
music school in Ostrava, Czech Republic. My family and I left this country
in 1988 for political reasons and moved to Sweden, where I have continued
my studies. At the age of 18 I studied at the "Falu Musikkonservatorium"
in Falun, where my interest in composition became greater, making me realise
that composition is what I want to concentrate on as a musician. At the
age of 21 I applied to the Birmingham Conservatoire, where I recently
finished my third year of a four year Honours degree. With one more year
to go, I look forward further studies on a post-graduate level in Amsterdam.
